ePOS Terminals - Android

Android is a mobile operating system based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and other open source software, designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Android is developed by a consortium of developers known as the Open Handset Alliance and commercially sponsored by Google. It was unveiled in November 2007, with the first commercial Android device launched in September 2008 (Wikipedia)

Certainly Android ePOS is disrupting the industry, just like Apples iOS platform, however a lot of hardware is primarily domestic hardware and not built to withstand the harsh environments of a busy Retail or Hospitality venue.

This is now changing with manufactures like SUNMI producing attractively priced Android hardware fit for the purpose it is to be used in.

In addition Android is a great choice because there is a very vibrant app market with thousands of applications for most Retail & Hospitality businesses.

Most of the major Printer manufactures, Star, Epson & Bixolon are supporting Android in ePOS & mPOS.

You will also see many devices that are described as mPOS, essentially mPOS is ePOS but with a Mobile twist!
